GENERAL INFORMATION

Niger visa photo rules from the Embassy of Niger

Niger’s visa photo standard is set by the Ministère des Affaires Étrangères and applied by each Embassy of Niger according to the convention of the host country. The Embassy of Niger in Washington, D.C. issues photos at 2×2 in on a white background, while the Embassy of Niger in Paris and the Embassy of Niger in Copenhagen accept 35×45 mm on a white or light background. The size you submit must match the mission processing your application.

There is no e-visa portal and no on-site biometric capture. Applications are filed directly with the embassy, typically as a scanned PDF by email followed by mailed originals, and two printed copies of the photo are normally required: one affixed to the application form and one supplied loose. Visa-on-arrival travelers at Diori Hamani International Airport in Niamey hand over printed photos in the 35×45 mm format for the internal file.

Embassy reviewers enforce the published rules strictly. A photo that does not match the mission’s size, background, or subject requirements will delay processing or cause the application to be returned, and a mismatched format (a 2×2 in print sent to Paris, or a 35×45 mm print sent to Washington) is a common reason for rejection.

REQUIREMENTS

What the Embassy of Niger requires in your visa photo

The Embassy of Niger expects a recent colour photograph with a neutral, front-facing pose. The rules below cover what you, the subject, need to get right before the shot is taken.

Expression & pose

  • Face the camera squarelyHold the head straight with shoulders level and the face turned directly to the camera. Side profiles and tilted heads are rejected by Nigerien missions.
  • Neutral expressionKeep a relaxed, neutral expression with the mouth closed. Broad smiles, visible teeth, and exaggerated expressions are not accepted.
  • Eyes open and visibleBoth eyes must be open, looking at the camera, and clearly visible. Hair must not fall across the eyes.

Eyewear & lenses

  • No sunglasses or tinted lensesSunglasses and any tinted or coloured lenses are prohibited in the photo.
  • Prescription glassesClear prescription glasses are permitted only if the lenses do not produce glare or reflections that obscure the eyes. Removing them is the safer option.

Headwear

  • No hats or capsHeadwear is not permitted unless worn daily for religious reasons. Where a religious head covering is worn, the full face must remain visible from the chin to the top of the forehead, with both edges of the face exposed.

Hair & face visibility

  • Keep the face unobstructedHair should be arranged so that the forehead, eyes, cheeks, and chin are all visible. Stray strands across the face are a common cause of rejection.

Clothing

  • Avoid white topsBecause the background is white, a white shirt or blouse will blend into it. Wear a darker or mid-tone top so the shoulders and neckline are distinguishable from the backdrop.
  • Everyday clothingWear ordinary street clothes. Uniforms are not accepted except for daily religious attire.

Photo quality

  • No shadows on the faceThe face must be evenly visible with no harsh shadows cast across the features by hats, hair, or strong overhead light.
  • No red-eye or motion blurHold still during the shot. Red-eye, blur, and unfocused features are grounds for rejection at the consular window.

  • The full face from chin to crown must be inside the frame with proper top margin.
RECENCY

How recent the photo must be.

Your visa photo must have been taken within the last six months. A new photo is required sooner whenever your appearance has changed in a way that makes the old photo no longer recognizable.

You need a new photo if you’ve had…

  • Facial surgery or a major change to facial structure
  • A significant gain or loss of weight that visibly changes your face
  • Large facial tattoos or piercings added or removed
  • A gender transition that has changed your appearance

You do not need a new photo just because of…

  • A new hair color
  • Growing or removing a beard or moustache
  • Ordinary, minor aging
  • A new hairstyle that still leaves the face fully visible
COUNTRY NOTES

Other things to know.

A few things about Niger’s visa channel are unusual and worth knowing before you submit.

No e-visa, no VAC

Niger does not run an online visa portal and does not use VFS Global, BLS, TLScontact, or any other visa application centre. Applications go directly to a Nigerien embassy by walk-in or mail, and the photo is always self-supplied.

Photo size depends on the embassy

The Embassy of Niger in Washington D.C. requires 2 x 2 in (51 x 51 mm) prints on a white background. The Embassies in Paris and Copenhagen require 35 x 45 mm prints on a white or light background. Match the photo to the mission you are applying through, since a print sized for one will be refused by the other.

Two printed copies

Both the Washington and Paris embassies expect two identical prints with each application: one affixed to the form and one supplied loose. Use high-quality photographic paper and keep the prints free of creases, stains, and staple marks across the face.

Niger is not Nigeria

Online guidance frequently confuses Niger (NE) with Nigeria (NG). The Nigerian Immigration Service biometric rules, the 600 x 800 px upload specs, and the OIS Services portal do not apply to Nigerien visas. Follow only the Embassy of Niger’s instructions.

PRINT QUALITY

Print-quality requirements for in-person submissions.

When you submit a printed photo at a visa application centre, the paper, finish, and ink all matter. The points below cover the standards most consular missions accept.

  • Print on photographic-quality paper at 300 DPI minimum.
  • Use a matte or semi-gloss finish; high-gloss can produce reflections that confuse biometric scanners.
  • Do not retouch, crop, or alter the photo after printing.
  • Bring at least two identical prints when the submission channel calls for paper photos.
