GENERAL INFORMATION

Honduras visa photos are issued under Instituto Nacional de Migración rules

The Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM), working with the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores y Cooperación Internacional, sets the photo standard for every Honduran visa category. The official requirement is qualitative: a recent (“reciente”), front-facing photograph at passport or carnet size, on a plain white background. The same generic specification covers tourist, business, transit, student, work, and Visa Consultada applications.

Honduras does not operate a state-run e-visa portal, and the Prechequeo Migratorio was discontinued in January 2024. There is no VFS, BLS, or TLScontact intake, and no biometric capture at consulates. Applicants supply printed photos in person or by post to a Honduran embassy or consulate, or through a legal representative to INM Tegucigalpa for Visa Consultada cases. Biometrics are taken later at the port of entry under the National Biometric System.

Consular staff enforce the standard strictly. Photos that are not recent, not centered, not on a clean white background, or that show shadows, glare, or obstruction of the face are returned with the application, delaying the visa decision. Honduran missions in Europe, including the United Kingdom post-August 2024, typically accept the local 35 by 45 mm passport size in place of the 2 by 2 inch default.

REQUIREMENTS

What the Instituto Nacional de Migración expects in a Honduras visa photo

INM and Honduran consular missions apply a single qualitative standard to every visa category. The rules below describe how the applicant must appear in the final print.

Expression & pose

  • Front-facing alignmentThe applicant must face the camera directly ("de frente"), with the head level and shoulders square. Tilted, profile, or three-quarter poses are not accepted.
  • Neutral expressionConsular practice requires a neutral expression with the mouth closed. Smiling, laughing, or exaggerated expressions lead to rejection.
  • Eyes open and visibleBoth eyes must be open and looking directly at the camera. Closed, squinting, or downcast eyes are not acceptable.
  • Recent likenessThe photograph must be recent, interpreted by Honduran consulates as taken within the last six months. Older photos are returned with the application.

Eyewear & lenses

  • EyeglassesGlasses are not permitted in the visa photo. Applicants who normally wear corrective lenses must remove them before the photo is taken.
  • Tinted or coloured lensesSunglasses and tinted lenses are not accepted under any circumstance. The eyes must be fully visible and uncovered.

Hair & facial hair

  • Hair off the faceHair must not fall across the eyes or obscure the outline of the face. Long hair may be worn down provided the facial features remain unobstructed.

Headwear

  • Hats and capsNon-religious headwear of any kind is prohibited. Hats, caps, headbands, and decorative head coverings must be removed.
  • Religious head coveringsReligious head coverings are permitted provided the entire face is visible from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and along both sides of the face.

Jewelry & accessories

  • Modest jewelry onlyEarrings, necklaces, and similar items are permitted only if they do not obscure facial features or cast distracting shadows. Large or reflective pieces should be removed.
  • Face coveringsMasks, scarves, and any accessory that covers part of the face are not accepted. The full face must be visible at all times.

Cosmetics

  • Natural appearanceMakeup should be minimal and natural. Heavy cosmetics that alter the applicant’s apparent features are grounds for rejection.

Clothing

  • Everyday attireOrdinary street clothing is required. Uniforms, including military and professional uniforms, are not accepted.
  • Contrast with backgroundClothing should be a colour that contrasts with the white background. White or very pale tops can cause the silhouette to blend into the backdrop.

RECENCY

How recent the photo must be.

Your visa photo must have been taken within the last six months. A new photo is required sooner whenever your appearance has changed in a way that makes the old photo no longer recognizable.

You need a new photo if you’ve had…

  • Facial surgery or a major change to facial structure
  • A significant gain or loss of weight that visibly changes your face
  • Large facial tattoos or piercings added or removed
  • A gender transition that has changed your appearance

You do not need a new photo just because of…

  • A new hair color
  • Growing or removing a beard or moustache
  • Ordinary, minor aging
  • A new hairstyle that still leaves the face fully visible
COUNTRY NOTES

Other things to know.

A few Honduras-specific quirks sit outside the standard subject rules and are worth knowing before you submit.

No e-visa portal

Honduras has no state-run online visa or photo upload channel. The Prechequeo Migratorio was discontinued in January 2024. Every visa photo is a physical print supplied by the applicant.

No VAC operator

Honduras does not use VFS Global, BLS, TLScontact, or any visa application centre. Applications and photo prints are submitted directly to a Honduran embassy or consulate, or to INM in Tegucigalpa for Visa Consultada cases.

Two printed copies

INM and most Honduran consulates require two identical printed photographs with the application. Confirm the exact count with the specific post before mailing in your file.

European consulate variant

Honduran consulates in Europe, including the United Kingdom, typically follow the local 35 by 45 mm passport-photo norm rather than the 2 by 2 inch print used across the Americas. Check which size your receiving post expects.

PRINT QUALITY

Print-quality requirements for in-person submissions.

When you submit a printed photo at a visa application centre, the paper, finish, and ink all matter. The points below cover the standards most consular missions accept.

  • Print on photographic-quality paper at 300 DPI minimum.
  • Use a matte or semi-gloss finish; high-gloss can produce reflections that confuse biometric scanners.
  • Do not retouch, crop, or alter the photo after printing.
  • Bring at least two identical prints when the submission channel calls for paper photos.
