GENERAL INFORMATION

Fiji visa photos and the Department of Immigration standard

The Fiji Department of Immigration, under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, sets the photo standard for every visa and permit category, from the Visitors Permit through to work, investor, and study permits. The Guidelines for Passport Photographs published on immigration.gov.fj govern visa applications as well, and the photo must be less than six months old when the file is lodged.

Fiji does not operate a VFS Global or BLS visa application centre network, and there is no dedicated e-visa photo upload portal. Applications go directly to the Department of Immigration in Suva or to a Fiji High Commission or Embassy abroad, with digital submissions handled as scans of physical prints embedded in emailed or uploaded application packets. North American missions, including the Fiji Embassy in Washington D.C., also accept the 2 by 2 inch (51 × 51 mm) format under the Ministry’s wider ‘passport size’ wording.

Department of Immigration officers reject photos that fail to meet the published subject rules, and the Ministry explicitly forbids manipulation such as spot removal or line softening. A non-compliant photo will hold up the application, force a fresh submission, and in some cases see the entire packet returned before processing begins.

REQUIREMENTS

What the Fiji Department of Immigration expects in your visa photo

The Fiji Ministry of Immigration sets clear rules for how the applicant must appear in the photo. The points below cover expression, eyewear, hair, headwear, and presentation.

  • Eyes open and visibleBoth eyes must be fully open and looking directly at the camera. Hair, frames, or shadows must not cover the eyes, and red-eye is not permitted.
  • Head squared to cameraThe head must be square to the camera with no tilt or rotation. An equal portion of each ear and cheek should be visible in the frame.

  • Tinted lenses and sunglassesTinted lenses, coloured lenses, and sunglasses are not accepted under any circumstances.

Headwear

  • General ruleHats, caps, and other head coverings are not permitted in a Fiji visa photo.
  • Religious or medical headwearHead coverings worn daily for religious or medical reasons are accepted, provided the full face from the chin to the top of the forehead is clearly visible and no shadows fall across the features.

  • CosmeticsMakeup is permitted in moderation. Skin tone must appear natural and features must not be altered or masked.

Photo quality

RECENCY

How recent the photo must be.

Your visa photo must have been taken within the last six months. A new photo is required sooner whenever your appearance has changed in a way that makes the old photo no longer recognizable.

You need a new photo if you’ve had…

  • Facial surgery or a major change to facial structure
  • A significant gain or loss of weight that visibly changes your face
  • Large facial tattoos or piercings added or removed
  • A gender transition that has changed your appearance

You do not need a new photo just because of…

  • A new hair color
  • Growing or removing a beard or moustache
  • Ordinary, minor aging
  • A new hairstyle that still leaves the face fully visible
COUNTRY NOTES

Other things to know.

A few aspects of the Fiji visa photo process sit outside the standard checklist and are worth flagging.

No e-visa photo portal

Fiji does not operate a dedicated online photo upload or validation tool. Digital submissions are scans of physical prints embedded in the application packet emailed or uploaded to the Department of Immigration.

No VAC network

Fiji does not use VFS Global, BLS, or any other visa application centre. Applications are lodged directly with the Department of Immigration in Suva or at Fiji High Commissions and Embassies abroad.

Americas missions size variant

The Fiji Embassy in Washington D.C. and other North American missions accept the U.S. 2 x 2 inch (51 x 51 mm) passport format under the Ministry’s broader ’passport size’ wording. The 35 x 45 mm format remains the global default everywhere else.

No Visa on Arrival photo

Visa-exempt nationals receive an entry stamp at the border and do not submit a photo. Travellers who require a visa must obtain it before travel; there is no on-arrival photo submission process.

PRINT QUALITY

Print-quality requirements for in-person submissions.

When you submit a printed photo at a visa application centre, the paper, finish, and ink all matter. The points below cover the standards most consular missions accept.

  • Print on photographic-quality paper at 300 DPI minimum.
  • Use a matte or semi-gloss finish; high-gloss can produce reflections that confuse biometric scanners.
  • Do not retouch, crop, or alter the photo after printing.
  • Bring at least two identical prints when the submission channel calls for paper photos.
