Belize visa photos and the Department of Immigration and Nationality
Belize visas are issued by the Department of Immigration and Nationality, Government of Belize. Form A, the single application used for every visa category, calls for one recent passport-size photograph, and the operative technical rules are published on the Department’s photo-requirements page. Consulates apply that same standard to foreign visa applicants, so the photo your consular officer expects is the Belizean 2×2 in print, not the 35×45 mm format used elsewhere.
Belize does not operate an e-visa portal and does not outsource intake to a visa application centre. Applications go directly to a Belizean embassy, consulate, high commission, or to Immigration Headquarters in Belmopan, with one printed photograph affixed to Form A. The Belize High Commission in London accepts an emailed pre-screen of the package, but the final submission is still a physical Form A with the printed photo attached.
A photo that misses the Department of Immigration’s specification is grounds for the application to be returned or rejected outright. Common reasons consular officers refuse a Belize visa photo include eyeglasses of any kind, ears hidden by hair, a non-neutral expression, a white shirt that fails to contrast with the white background, or a print older than six months.
What the Department of Immigration and Nationality requires
The Belizean visa photo must show a true, current likeness with a neutral pose and both ears visible. Consulates apply these subject-side rules strictly, and non-compliant prints are refused at intake.

- Neutral expressionThe applicant must hold a neutral facial expression with no smile, frown, or raised eyebrows.
- Mouth closedLips must be closed. Open-mouth or teeth-showing photos are rejected.
- Eyes open and visibleEyes must be fully open and looking directly at the camera. No squinting and no closed eyes.
- Face the cameraThe face must look directly at the camera with the head centered and held straight, not tilted or rotated.
Eyewear & lenses

- Permitted head coveringsWhere a head covering is permitted, it must not cast shadows on the face and the full face from chin to forehead, plus both sides of the face, must remain clearly visible.
Jewelry & cosmetics
- Minimal facial jewelryFacial jewelry should be minimal and must not reflect light or distract from the face.
- Natural appearanceCosmetics must keep a natural appearance. Heavy or theatrical makeup that alters the applicant’s true likeness is discouraged.
Clothing
- Shoulders coveredSleeveless tops and tank tops are not accepted. The chest and shoulders must be covered.

Dimensions, resolution & background.
Head position & camera distance.
- Head height, measured from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head, must be between 35.6 mm and 40.6 mm (roughly 70–80% of the photo height).
- Eyes must sit between 27.9 mm and 33.5 mm from the bottom of the photo.
- The head must be centered horizontally in the frame with a small symmetrical margin on each side.
- Both shoulders must be square to the camera and visible. Three-quarter angles or rotated torsos are not accepted.
- The full face from chin to crown must be inside the frame with proper top margin.
How recent the photo must be.
Your visa photo must have been taken within the last six months. A new photo is required sooner whenever your appearance has changed in a way that makes the old photo no longer recognizable.
You need a new photo if you’ve had…
- Facial surgery or a major change to facial structure
- A significant gain or loss of weight that visibly changes your face
- Large facial tattoos or piercings added or removed
- A gender transition that has changed your appearance
You do not need a new photo just because of…
- A new hair color
- Growing or removing a beard or moustache
- Ordinary, minor aging
- A new hairstyle that still leaves the face fully visible
Photos for infants and young children.
Belize publishes no separate photo specification for children or infants. The same 2 × 2 in standard applies at every age, with consulates relaxing pose tolerances in practice for babies who cannot sit unaided.
Infants (under 1 year)
The Department of Immigration and Nationality does not publish an infant-specific variant, but officers accept a more relaxed pose for babies who cannot hold a neutral expression.
- Expression flexibilityA strictly neutral expression is not required for infants. The mouth may be slightly open and the eyes do not need to be perfectly aligned with the camera.
- Pose toleranceMinor head tilt and small variations in gaze direction are accepted when the baby cannot hold a steady frontal pose.
- Subject alone in frameNo other person, hand, or supporting prop may appear in the photo. Parents must not be visible holding or steadying the child.
- Same print sizeThe print is still 2 × 2 in on a plain white background, identical to the adult specification.
Other things to know.
A few practical points set Belize apart from most visa workflows.
No e-visa, no VAC
Belize operates no online visa portal and contracts no visa application centre. Every application goes directly to a Belizean embassy, consulate, high commission, or the Immigration Headquarters in Belmopan, with the printed photo affixed to Form A.
2 × 2 in only, worldwide
Belize has standardized on the North American 2 × 2 in (51 × 51 mm) size at every mission. The 35 × 45 mm UK and EU size is not accepted, even at the Belize High Commission in London.
One photo per Form A
Only one printed photograph is submitted with Form A, securely affixed in the photo box on the form. Bring a clean, undamaged print: creased, marked, or punctured photos are refused.
Visa-exempt travellers
Nationals who qualify for visa-free entry of up to 30 days do not file Form A and submit no photograph at all. The photo rules apply only to travellers who require a visa in advance.

Print-quality requirements for in-person submissions.
When you submit a printed photo at a visa application centre, the paper, finish, and ink all matter. The points below cover the standards most consular missions accept.
- Print on photographic-quality paper at 300 DPI minimum.
- Use a matte or semi-gloss finish; high-gloss can produce reflections that confuse biometric scanners.
- Do not retouch, crop, or alter the photo after printing.
- Bring at least two identical prints when the submission channel calls for paper photos.
